.AIR FORCE OFFICER QUALIFYING TEST (AFOQT)

The Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) measures aptitudes used to select candidates for officer commissioning programs, such as Officer Training School (OTS) or Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC). It is also used for selection into specific training programs such as pilot and navigator training. The AFOQT is a required test for consideration for the Airman Education and Commissioning Program (AECP), the College Senior Engineering Program (CSEP), and the Airman Scholarship and Commissioning Program of AFROTC.

Each Officer Candidate must score a minimum of 15 on the Verbal and 10 on the Quantitative.

The AFOQT is a standardized test similar to the SAT and ACT that measures aptitudes, and is used to select applicants for officer commissioning programs or specific training programs. It is a required test for all cadets and students on scholarship or in the POC. (AFOQT) is a standardized test similar to the SAT and ACT. The AFOQT measures aptitudes and is used to select applicants for officer commissioning programs, such as Officer Training School (OTS) or Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (Air Force ROTC). It is also used for selection into specific training programs such as pilot and navigator training.

The AFOQT can only be taken twice. (waiverable – Please note that waivers are NOT guaranteed). Examinees must wait 180 days between tests. AFOQT scores never expire. The most recent AFOQT test score is the one that counts.

Check out your local bookstore's test review section for commercial AFOQT test preparation guides. Also, any SAT review material may be useful as you prepare for the Verbal and Quantitative (Math) sections.

Det 485 offers the AFOQT once (sometimes twice) a semester to students who wish to participate in AFROTC. We allow applicants for other commissioning programs to take the exam on a space available basis. This test is also administered at every school that offers ROTC. The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is relatively close to Rutgers and offers the test on a similar frequency. As a last resort, students may take the exam at McGuire Air Force Base; however, this requires coordination to gain access to the installation

What to Bring: We will provide pencils, scratch paper, and all materials necessary for the exam. Students may NOT use calculators, so don’t bring them.

How long does it take? The exam normally lasts about 3.5 hours.
