| About AADC Fellowships
Each year, the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College
award fellowships to graduating seniors and/or alumnae of Douglass
College for pursuit of graduate work in a field in which the student
has achieved academic excellence and has identified sound career
objectives.

Following are the names of the fellowships offered and
some background information about the individuals in whose memories
these fellowships are established.
Ruth M. Adams Fellowship *
- Established by the AADC in honor of former dean,
Ruth Adams
- Fellowship is for an alumna pursuing an advanced
degree
Julia Baxter Bates Fellowship *
- Alumna of the Class of 1938
- First known African-American graduate of NJC
- Prominent in the nation's Civil Rights movement
- Fellowship is for an African-American graduate pursuing
an advanced degree who exhibits community involvement and leadership
skills
Joseph B. and Florence Voorhees
Cejka Fellowship

- Florence was an alumna of the Class of 1940
- English major
- Fellowship is for a senior who will pursue an advanced
degree in the humanities with preference to the study of English,
history, comparative literature or philosophy
Edith Newsom Estarabadi Fellowship *
- Alumna of Class of 1924
- Home Economics major
- Friend of Margaret Denton Wagner
- Fellowship is for an alumna pursuing an advanced
degree
Evangeline Mundy Galas Fellowship *
- Alumna of the Class of 1935
- Spanish major
- Fellowship is for a senior with an excellent academic
record who will pursue an advanced degree in Spanish or a Spanish-related
field
Maurice Lee Fellowship
- A tribute to the deep commitment and dedication
of Maurice Lee
- Came to Douglass in 1967, named chair of History
Dept in 1969
- Named Margaret Judson Professor of History in 1987
- Loyal Douglass fellow and longtime benefactor of
the college
- Retired after a 29-year career at Douglass and Rutgers
- Fellowship is for a senior who will pursue an advanced
degree in history or art history
Laurie Ann McDade Fellowship *
- 1974 graduate of University College
- English major
- Residence Counselor at Douglass in 1980-81
- Assistant Professor at Miami University at the time
of her death
- Death caused by an auto accident in 1988
- Fellowship is for a senior who will pursue an advanced
degree with preference to a degree in women’s studies, anthropology,
or sociology
Bertha Garber Modell Fellowship *
- Sister of Douglass alumna of the Class of
1951
- Fellowship is for a senior or an alumna
Agnes McDede Murray Fellowship *
- Alumna from the Class of 1930
- 1996 recipient of the Margaret T. Corwin Award for
service to the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College
- Fund Agent for the Class of 1930 for more than 20
years
- Instrumental in annual minireunions for the Class
of 1930 for many years
- Fellowship is for seniors
James Neilson Fellowship *
- Douglass College benefactor who contributed
the Wood Lawn estate
- Fellowship is for a senior who shows promise of
a distinguished career who will pursue an advanced degree
Norman and Ruth Feller Rosenberg
Fellowship
- Ruth is an alumna of the Class of 1937
- Fellowship was established by Ruth and Norman in
memory of their son, Ralph
- Fellowship is for a senior who demonstrates excellence
in science and will pursue a graduate degree in a science field
Ruth E. Salny Fellowship *
- Alumna of the Class of 1930
- Botany major
- Came from a family of physicians and scientists
- Fellowship is for a senior who will pursue an advanced
degree in the natural sciences, physics, chemistry, biology or
medicine
Joyce Kotler Schwartz Memorial Graduate Science
Fellowship *
- Alumna of the Class of 1963
- Fellowship is for an alumna or senior who is doing
graduate work in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, medicine,
dentistry, computers, or engineering
Hedwig Hass Turkenkopf Fellowship *
- Alumna of the Class of 1927
- English major
- Fellowship is for outstanding minority graduates
Margaret Denton Wagner Fellowship *
- 1943 recipient of the Margaret T. Corwin Award
for service to the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College
- President of the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College
1945-48
- Alumnae Trustee 1948-53
- President of the New Jersey State Federation of
Women’s Clubs 1962-64
- Fellowship is for an alumna pursuing an advanced
degree
Kelly Ann Wilson Fellowship *
- Kelly was killed when the car in which she
was riding was struck by a drunk driver
- Member of the Class of 1984; still a student at
the time of her death
- Active in DCGA, Orientation Committee and editor
of Red Book
- Double major in political science and sociology
- Planned to attend law school
- Fellowship is for a senior who will attend law school
