  The Douglass Dink

The dink, embroidered with the class year, was a symbol of new students until the late 1960's. The green color symbolized the naiveté of the first year students. The sophomore color was red, simply because that color was forbidden to first year students. Sophomores wore red proudly, especially in the presence of first-years. The color for juniors was gray, reflecting the melancholy and apathetic moods of this busy class. Black was for seniors, since that is the color of the solemn academic robes worn at graduation.
