Away from our campus
home for more than a year during extensive construction to renovate
and expand the former “Alumnae Cottage,” the Associate Alumnae
of Douglass College moved back home in the spring of 2003. A grand
opening of the Ruth Schilling Hennessy Alumnae Center took place
May 19 to mark the happy occasion.
The extensive building improvements were made possible through a generous,
$1 million gift from Edward L. Hennessy Jr. to honor his wife, Ruth Schilling
Hennessy '50, on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
The construction resulted in a much-needed 2,600-square-foot expansion
of the existing structure to create meeting and conference space, additional
offices, a new roof, siding, windows, and mechanical systems. The improvements
also have made the building fully accessible to all visitors with the
inclusion of a new elevator. |
